Exploring kindness through the story of the Good Samaritan

P1s at Greenbrae Primary have had a great time exploring the story of the Good Samaritan.  They acted out the story (several times – so different people could be the bandits!) watched a video and even read it in the Beginners Bible.  No wonder they were super good at retelling the story!  They were able to sequence the story competently by pegging pictures onto bandages and made great representations of different parts of the story with loose collage parts – the Samaritan’s donkey featured greatly!  The weather prohibited us going outside on this occasion, but we did go outside the following week to play parachute games about who is the same and who is different from us.  This led to a game about who they would help and who they wouldn’t help. For P1s, they displayed great maturity as they decided which side to run to and it was super to see their honesty and hear their reasons for not helping too!  Showing kindness can cost – even if you are only five years old!  January can be a bit iffy weather wise, but young children really benefit from learning outdoors and it’s worth going for it and wrapping up warm.  Have a look at our resources – ideas are given for indoor and outdoor learning and some activities can be easily adapted either way.
